Every project needs to be tested with a working prototype. Up to some years ago, the only way to obtain a tangible version of and idea was to rely on classic production technologies and artisans.
Additive Rapid Prototyping technologies (RP or 3D Print) marked a cultural watershed, as they sensibly lowered time and pricing of prototyping, while raising accuracy.
Santa Design has two machines for 3D print. These machines function with different technologies, which allow to obtain different results.
CJP (Color Jet Printer)
Powder additive technology. This 3D system technology is conceptually very similar to a house printer: one level after the other, a printhead passes over a chalk powder pool, solidifying only the points that are required. The superficial layers of the prototype can be printed with 256 million colours, enabling aesthetical controls.
The advantage of this technology is that it doesn’t require added supports besides the chalk itself, since the model is constructed inside a powder pool: this allows to create impossible solids (e.g. spheres containing other spheres).

FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling)
Additive technology: a hot nozzle ejects a plastic filament (PLA or ABS), stratifying it vertically to form the model. This technology can print in one selected colour, and it is particularly recommended for mechanical tests.
